City awards small-business loans

December 22, 2008
Louisville-Jefferson County Metro Government, through the Metropolitan Business Development Corp., has awarded small-business loans to two fledgling Louisville businesses.

Susan Hershberg, owner of Wiltshire Pantry catering, received a $30,650 low-interest loan to open a restaurant and bar, called Wiltshire Pantry on Market, at 636 E. Market St., in the East Market Arts District.

The site formerly was occupied by Jenicca’s Cafe and Wine Bar, which closed at the end of November.

Wiltshire Pantry on Market will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday for dinner only, Abramson’s office said in a news release.

METCO also gave Darren and Deborah Kady a $50,000 forgivable loan to open Blackstones, a home decor and jewelry store, in a portion of a former Kmart store at 7813 Beulah Church Rd.

The Kadys will lease the unused portion of the Kmart building to other retailers, Abramson’s office said in the release.
